Made in Germany

Today Dirk asked me: “Do you know how the phrase ‘made in Germany’ got its status?” I said: “…not really.” Then he told me the story. About 150 years ago, UK was _the_ industrial country in Europe. German products were not so well manufactured at that time and often copied ideas from British products, and […]

Sniff On 2012 June 16th, the Friday before the latest Greece election, DAX closed at 6229.41 points. Today, 33 days thereafter, DAX closed at 6758.39 points. That’s beefy 8.45% up in 33 days! What have happened during the 33 days? Greek people have chosen a new government, which saved the EU from falling apart too […]

IC: InterCity. EC: EuroCity.

unnecessary projects

I heard that Shanghai is going to build yet another Disneyland which would cost around 4 billion euros. And, an artificial lake which costs 50 million euros is already being built in Shanghai, seems the main purpose is to boost the price of real estates around the lake. I don’t feel happy to hear these […]

In the National Geographic German version issue July 2008, there is a story about China. I bought this issue and read the complete story. Very well written. The authors had lived in China for many years, what they described is quite fact-oriented. The critiques are quite to the point. The story was written with sympathy […]
