Sniff:
- I’m impressed by Google China’s features that are currently unavailable in Google elsewhere. In Google China’s map service, one can search how to travel from place A to B with public transportation. Yes Google US has that too, but it covers simply too few cities. In Europe, such kind of service is already very sophisticated, but provided by my company, not Google. The planners of Door-to-Door travel with public transportation available on many European railway company’s websites are powered by our software. Google China’s routine planner with public transportation is almost as sophisticated as ours. I’m impressed while also worried.
The “Google Life” feature on Google China is so, so practical. There you can choose a city, and then search for immobile, jobs, train tickets, restaurants, what’s on in cinemas, cultural events, etc. etc., in that city. In Europe and US there are many specialized websites for such items. I don’t know whether Google elsewhere would want to compete with those established sites and bring up the “Google Life” there too. By the way, in China there were specialized sites for searching immobile, jobs, restaurants…too, still, Google China made the move and in my opinion, it is a very good job done. - Jim Rogers on the financial crisis (about 30 minutes):
