Opinion Orbit 2: mind our own business

Recently the Tibet and Olympic Game has been headlines in all kinds of German medias. Last Friday my boss asked me “Whether the Olympic Game should be boycotted or not”. My answer was, of course not. Reasons:
- The career life of sportsmen, no matter what nationality they have, is normally very short. The sportsmen have been trained hard for many years and waited for the Olympic game. It is unfair not giving them the right to take part. We should be sympathetic to the sportsmen.
- If the purpose of the boycott is to improve the human right in China, I don’t think the boycott of Olympic game will bring any positive influence. Rather, for many complex and profound reasons the boycott will only make things worse. The direct consequence is that sentiments of hatred to western world will grow wildly in the hearts of many Chinese, this will only the Chinese government to strengthen her domestic might by utilizing the hatred sentiments wisely.
All in all, all these Tibet/Olympic boycott stuff are political games in which I do not have much interest, the governments and politicians will take care of it anyway.
But is there anything we can do to help the Chinese people if we really want to? I think the best way is to mind our own business. Let’s have a look at the pictures in this piece of news. The pictures show a common scene of a typical Chinese railway station. People in the long queue are waiting to buy train tickets. Look, so many people, so long waiting time. I don’t think the ticket buyers have enough dignity in such situation. Hey, getting good ticketing service is also human right! We, as a public traffic scheduling/ticketing system provider, are well able to improve this aspect of human right in China! We should absolutely improve the human right in China by selling our product to China! Look, it’s a win-win business, we get the profit and the Chinese people get human right.
Actually, improving the human right in China by minding our own business not only applies to our company, but also apply to others. My point is, let’s stop wasting time and energy on the job which actually belongs to politicians, stop meaningless debate and be more result-oriented. There is enough to do in our own business, if we really want to play the world saver and bring the Chinese civilization to a higher level.
